The InBox is essentially a log of all the mail that you have received in Snap Mail. At times it is also important to have a log of mail that you have sent to other people, as well as information on whether or not your mail has been delivered yet. This information is available from the Mail Log, which you can bring up by choosing “Mail Log...” from the Snap menu. The Mail Log window also allows you to cancel the sending of mail that has not yet been delivered or unpost alerts that you no longer want to be active.
From the Mail Log window, you can choose either “Pending Mail” or “Delivered Mail” by choosing from the pop-up menu at the top.
• Pending Mail
If “Pending Mail” is selected, you will see a list of mail items you have sent that are still waiting to be delivered, as well as any alerts you have sent that are still active. Usually these pending pieces of mail have not been delivered yet because the destination computer is not available. It may also be the case that these mail items are on their way out but have not completed sending yet.
If you have sent an enclosure and it appears in your pending list, you will see that the number of bytes remaining to be sent is listed before the subject heading.
You may double click on any piece of mail in the pending list to see the full text of the message you have sent. You may also copy this text if you would like to paste it somewhere else.
You can print out or save to disk any pending mail item by selecting the item(s) and clicking on the appropriate button.
To remove mail from your pending list, simply select the mail item(s) and then click on the “Remove” button. Once you have removed a piece of mail, it will no longer be sent.
Mail items will be removed from your pending list and put on your delivered list as soon as they are received by the destination computer. Alerts, however, are taken off your pending list only when you explicitly remove them, or when the auto-unsend time for the alert has passed. When you remove an alert from the pending list, the alert will be removed from all computers on which it appeared. Though mail that has been placed in the recipient’s InBox can no longer be unsent, you can remove an alert from the recipient’s InBox.
To see hidden mail items in the pending list (outgoing return receipts, server items, and enclosure blocks) hold down the “Option” key when you select “Mail Log...” in the Snap menu. (Keyboard shortcut: Cmd-Option-L)
• Delivered Mail
If you choose “Delivered Mail” from the pop-up at the top, you will see a summary listing of all the mail that you have sent. This allows you to go back to verify whether or not you have sent a particular piece of mail.
You may double-click on a delivered mail item to see the full text of the mail as well as the sending status to each recipient of the mail. Each recipient will be listed as “delivered” (along with the time delivered) if he or she received the mail, as “pending” if the mail is still waiting to be sent, or as “deleted” if that mail was removed from the pending list.
At the top left of the Delivered Mail log you will find a text entry box where you can enter the “log size.” This specifies how many mail messages Snap Mail will keep in the log. Snap Mail will automatically delete old mail items when this limit is surpassed. You can set the log to keep up to the last 500 mail items.
You can print out or save to disk any delivered mail by selecting the item(s) and clicking on the appropriate button. To remove mail from your delivered list, simply select the mail item(s) and then click on the “Delete” button.
